Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to remove stubborn fat deposits, helping to refine body contours in targeted areas.

OVERVIEW

Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess fat deposits from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks, arms and neck. It is suitable for individuals looking to address localised fat deposits that may not respond to diet or exercise, helping to refine body contours.

During the procedure, a thin tube called a cannula is inserted through small incisions to carefully remove fat. Liposuction can be performed on its own or in conjunction with other procedures to enhance body contouring results.

JOURNEY

Consultation

Your journey begins with a consultation where your surgeon will evaluate your areas of concern, discuss your goals, and determine if liposuction is the right option for you. They will explain the procedure and what to expect.

Prior to surgery, you’ll receive specific instructions regarding medications, dietary restrictions, and any pre-operative tests necessary to ensure a smooth procedure.

During the procedure, a thin tube called a cannula is inserted through small incisions in the targeted areas. The surgeon will use the cannula to loosen and suction out excess fat, sculpting a more refined body contour.

After the procedure, you’ll be monitored before returning home with post-operative care instructions. These will include guidance on managing discomfort, swelling, and when to gradually resume normal activities.

Follow-up appointments will be scheduled to assess your healing and the results. Your surgeon will provide advice on maintaining your new body shape and address any concerns you may have.

Who is a good candidate for liposuction?

Ideal candidates are individuals at or near their target weight who have stubborn fat deposits that don’t respond to diet and exercise. Good overall health and realistic expectations are also important.

The amount of fat that can be safely removed varies by individual and the areas being treated, but typically, up to 5 litres may be removed in a single session.

Most patients can return to light activities within a week, but full recovery may take several weeks depending on the extent of the procedure and the areas treated.

While small incisions are made, they are typically placed in discreet areas to minimise visibility. Scars usually fade over time with proper care.

Liposuction is not a weight loss solution; rather, it is designed for body contouring. It’s most effective for removing localized fat deposits rather than overall weight reduction.
